Why plan a funeral ahead of time? As we get older, we tend to spend a little more time contemplating what will happen next, or perhaps we go through the process of burying someone dear to us and wish to make it easier for our children or whoever will be remain after we pass. Planning your funeral liturgy ahead of time can be very comforting to those who will mourn your loss. When someone dies, there are often many details to be "taken care of" that can be overwhelming. Planning readings and music is a way that you can comfort and reassure them, even if you are not there anymore. It is also a good spiritual exercise for all of us to help prepare us for death.

O Blessed Joseph, you gave your last breath in the loving embrace of Jesus and Mary. When the seal of death shall close my life, come with Jesus and Mary to aid me. Obtain for me this solace for that hour - to die with their holy arms around me. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I commend my soul, living and dying, into your sacred arms. Amen.
