A program for children, Kindergarten through Grade 5, the Faith Formation classes focus on the baptismal call to become followers of Jesus Christ. With an emphasis on Scripture and the traditions of the Catholic faith, students participate in the community's worship, prayer and service to others.
Parents, the first and best teachers in the faith, are supported by catechists working in partnership with them in the religious education of their children. Love of Christ and the Church, frequent reception of the Sacraments, prayer, and service are encouraged as parents fulfill the obligation to their children in the promises made at baptism.
Parents, catechists and the faith community join together in passing on the faith of the church to the next generation.
Adult volunteers are needed as catechists (teachers and co-teachers), substitute catechists and assistants to help with planning, publicizing or arranging activities as well as providing refreshments and clerical assistance.
Please complete and return the registration form (to the left) to the Parish office.
Classes meet from 10:15am – 11:15am in the Elementary School Building
Although this year will offer challenges, we have not giving up teaching Faith Formation to the Parish children, we are excited to work with families to bring Jesus to our children. This year you will hear more about the domestic church (the smallest body of gathered believers in Christ) and how this can grow ever stronger in your own home!
We have a curriculum ” – which uses a blended learning approach of traditional print resources with digital tools and resources that can be used by catechists, parents/families, and students. The digital tools are mobile-friendly and available anytime, anywhere, on most Internet-accessible devices.
The first option allows children to spend some time physically in a classroom here at Our Lady of Lourdes. For this option, a class size that will follow our OLL School classroom guidelines for children. Children will will meet with "in classroom" time and also given at home sessions "at home" on scheduled dates Please note: classes meeting at Our Lady of Lourdes will adhere to the most current CDC guidelines (children will sit 6 feet apart, face the same direction, and children/catechists will wear face masks).
The second option is an "at home only" model. All lessons are taught by parents at home with the support and guidance of catechists. We will be providing materials that will support the tenets of the faith that your child will need to journey through this year. Your requirements will be to provide a space for your family to gather each week, pray, to review and discuss the material, complete the activity, and finally to send reflection responses and examples back to evaluate the concept was understood. Time expectation will be up to each family.
Please indicate on the registration form if you will be able to attend class or would prefer the “at home” option. If “at home” is preferred, please indicate if you have access to a device and internet service (not a requirement). Once the “at home” is selected, your family will not be able to change back. We will reevaluate again in January, to see if we can bring more students into the classroom.
Registration has been extended... Please also choose the formation option ("IN CLASSROOM" or "IN HOME") that you are registering your child for the 2020-2021 Faith Formation year.
